Bob Jose Welcome

Northeastern is building the next generation of global leaders by being a global institution. I filmed this short welcome from Robert Jose (Dean for Cultural and Spiritual Life) for NU’s Bay Area campuses in Silicon Valley & San Fransisco. Bob is a warm, generous presence in our community and I wanted to emphasize his sincerity and earnestness in his welcome while maintaining a clean, corporate look.

Simple shoots like this are a fun way to practice being creative “within the lines.” You’ll know the Boston Skyline is a favorite backdrop in East Village, but I chose a non-distinct area of our venue to film in since this was for our global network. There are some nice shapes and leading lines towards our subject. I also chose to shoot with a higher contrast-ratio than with other videos to add a bit of “drama” to the look. Finally, I tied the look to the ambience with the use of a dramatic soundscape.

This is the first time I got to take advantage of the 4K camera packages I spec’d for our department. A fan of Sony cameras, I opted to purchase a matched set of Sony A7iii’s and Tamron 28-75 f/2.8. These cameras and lenses check the boxes on affordability, quality, versatility, and with the two of them, redundancy. In this case, the A Cam is set to 35mm on a tripod with a teleprompter and the B Cam is on a tripod at 75mm— both at f/4 and shooting in the “Cinetoneh” picture profile.

Please do reach out if you need an affordable Director of Photography, Camera Operator or Videographer! I’d love to apply these same skills your next documentary, behind-the-scenes, or interview video.
