Big D x Jasmine Bailey
My friendship with Producer DeShawn “Big D” Hendrickson runs deep and across many connections. We met through working with the Hipshot Band; DeShawn was the FOH engineer (sound guy) and me as bassist (one time we were actually double booked for sound and I ran monitors— funny!). DeShawn also works for another University here in town where I occasionally contract and we have many mutual AV friends. Most recently, Big D has been bringing me into the studio to film behind-the-scenes as he works with artists.
One of these artists, Jasmine Bailey, is a creative multi-hyphenate (songwriter, singer, visual artist, educator and nationally touring act). Jasmine flew out from California for three days to work with Big D on several songs for her upcoming album. She is a kind, calm presence with a sultry, smooth voice to match. I was fortunate to be a fly on the wall to see her and DeShawn collaborate. What came out from my time in the studio with them was a pair of Instagram Reels for her latest single, “Cherry Pie.”
Filming behind-the-scenes videos is a super fun way to bridge my passion for filmmaking and background in music. Being in the room with other creatives and sharing in their artistry is fresh air for my spirit. I’m grateful to both Jasmine and Big D for inviting me to Studio81 to capture their experience together.
This was shot on the Sony A7iii with the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 + Tiffen Black Pro Mist 1/4 flown on my DJI Ronin S gimbal. Audio was captured in-camera with the first generation Sennheiser MKE400.
